A loved one has gone missing — how to file a report and start a search.
What to do
Contact the police
File a missing-person report by calling 102 or in person at a police station — the person will be entered into the Unified Register of Persons Missing under Special Circumstances.
Provide a DNA sample
Contact the Ministry of Internal Affairs' expert service to provide a DNA sample — this helps identify the person in case of death.
Gather known information
Prepare a photo, description, the last known location and circumstances of disappearance — this speeds up the search.
File an appeal with the Ombudsman
If official bodies are not responding or you are not getting updates on the search, describe the situation via the hotline or online cabinet.
People who go missing under special circumstances must be reported to the police so they can be entered into the Unified Register of Persons Missing under Special Circumstances. Relatives can provide DNA samples for identification.
