What to do
Report the captivity officially
If you have not done so yet, contact the military unit or the territorial recruitment centre so the fact of captivity is officially recorded.
Contact the Coordination Headquarters
The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War collects information on POWs and organises exchanges.
File an appeal with the Ombudsman
Describe the situation and attach any documents you have (a missing-person or captivity certificate, military unit data) via the online cabinet or hotline.
Keep your contact details up to date
Report any change of phone number or address so you can be reached when new information appears.
If your relative has been taken prisoner, the Ombudsman raises the issue with the International Committee of the Red Cross and international partners, and cooperates with the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
